Magnesium sulfate is used to increase the content of magnesium or sulfur in the soil. It is most often used for potted plants or for crops that require a lot of magnesium (potatoes, roses, tomatoes, lemons, carrots and peppers). The advantage of magnesium sulfate over other magnesium soil improvers (such as dolomite) is its high solubility, which allows it to be applied directly to the leaves of plants. Magnesium sulphate solutions have a pH close to neutral, unlike the alkaline salts of magnesium found in sandstone.
